Reality Bites: When sourcing strategies stop working

Overview
Sourcing is a wide and varied practice and not all sourcing strategies or reqs are created equal. Certain candidate roles are not common on LinkedIn, and a string for LinkedIn, Monster or your ATS is not the same as a string for Twitter. The what, where and how of your search will define your success.

What to Expect
In this session we'll show you what happens when that beautiful sourcing strategy that you have comes crashing down in the face of reality.  Not to fear, though...we'll also show you solutions!

Who should attend
Recruiters looking for more options and new ideas for when the typical search approach doesn’t work.

Takeaways
• Learn why there’s no such thing as an “unusable” site
• New ideas for sourcing strategies for different roles and resources

Getting Started in Custom Programming for Sourcing Purposes

Sourcers often recruit programmers to create products that drive their company forward, but what if you could do the same to drive your company's recruiting forward?  Numerous opportunities exist to go beyond or fill gaps that off-the-shelf software cannot provide, at no cost.  While you won't emerge from this session as a top coder, you'll learn how to scale the initial barriers to take your career to the next level and make you uniquely (in)valuable to employers:

  • Why you need a free GitHub account to take advantage of today's stuff & how to use it as a coder
  • What free software you need to install (Apple or Windows) for Python, today's hottest language + recommended free code editors that handle various languages
  • Step-by-step through a couple of novice-level JavaScript bookmarklets and Excel VBA examples that you can build on
  • Where to find more free sourcer-relevant scripts you can easily adapt without deep programming knowledge
  • Where to go for additional free programming coursework to complement what you'll learn from peers
  • Who in the sourcing community you should get to know to continue your programming journey

The Sourcer Without Technology: How to bring out your inner prowess

Before technology, a sourcer’s net worth was determined by the names and cards placed in their personal Rolodex. As technology has advanced the need for a personal Rolodex became irrelevant as sourcers did just that, sourced. This created an abundance of administrative work. From scheduling to screening, to job boards, technology has reshaped the industry. This session will take a look into what it was like before sourcers were called sourcers and you’ll take a journey through different recruiting eras and be left with one thought, are we back where we started?
